Great Gatsby Lesson Plan
Hello, my name is Maria Bonaddio and welcome back to my teaching blog! If I were to teach 5th graders, I would like to teach them about the Jazz Age. The Jazz Age was a cultural period and movement that took place in the 1920s within America. This era is when both new styles of music and dance emerged. I would love to teach students about the culture of this era including the history of flappers, musicians, filmmakers, athletes, entertainers and more. During this time, the people of America went through many social and political changes. For the first time, … Continue reading Great Gatsby Lesson Plan

In honor of this, we have decided to focus our final research project on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The students we are aiming to teach this book to are middle and high school students. We intend on using interpersonal, intrapersonal and linguistics for Gardner’s components of intelligence. All three of these intelligences were used throughout the book, and we plan on explaining when these intelligences are present in the book. … Continue reading The Great Gatsby

Naturalist
For my final project I’ve decided to research and focus on the naturalist period. This period started in 1870 and lasted until 1910. Naturalism is a literary genre that started as a movement in the late nineteenth century in literature, film, theater, and art. It is a type of extreme realism. This movement suggested the roles of family, social conditions, and environment in shaping human character. Many famous naturalist American authors include people such as Mark Twain, Fredrick Douglas, Stephen Crane as well as many others. Along with the naturalism movement came the realism period as well. Realism focused on … Continue reading Naturalist
Realism Period
I am interested in looking at realist literature. Realism was a literary and artistic movement that followed Romanticism. Realism is characterized by the choice of the everyday, the use of very typical and authentic settings, believable characters, and very relatable plot lines. Issues of class, money, gender, and geographic location often appear in these works. When reading works from this literary period, readers ca often sympathize with the characters as they are having problems that many people can relate to. For this assignment, I would focus on the novel Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. I believe that this … Continue reading Realism Period

Modernism and Realism in The Great Gatsby
The Modern Period had begun in the 1900s and was a movement in which technology and urbanization increased due to the Industrial Revolution. A favorite text of mine that is included with this time period is The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. Modernism was portrayed through the corruption of the American dream and disobeying society’s rules. Throughout the book, there are decisions made by each of the characters that cause poor consequences they are left to deal with. I enjoy reading about this time period because it is most relatable and realistic, by showing the struggles individuals had to … Continue reading Modernism and Realism in The Great Gatsby

Romantic era
One era that I am personally interested in would be the Romantic era. I feel that the romantic era was the first time anyone has really read about emotion, love, and affection. During the Romantic era, most people were considered conservatives. During that era, authors and even artists started to express themselves in words and pictures. I personally love to read about love and emotion, so I am very interested in this time period. The Romantic era also touches upon nature, using personification in its poems. I would teach the romantic era/period with poems and short stories by the famous authors during … Continue reading Romantic era
My teaching ideas
Throughout my research I found many authors that have written children’s books. These books would be great for a classroom and to read to elementary students, as they can engage students in books they do not see and read all the time. Some authors I am curious about are Charlotte Zolotow, Vashti Harrison and Chelsea Clinton. These three authors all target feminism and racial differences. I am interested in these types of genres and era’s because it can help students understand and learn more about gender roles and racism to some extent. These genres and era’s can help my students … Continue reading My teaching ideas
What I would teach
Hello, my name is Kelsey Ciafone and welcome to my first blog post. While I was researching different topics the one that stood out the most was the Civil Rights movements. In school around the age of 9, I remember learning about different types of civil right movements, but I remember learning about Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. The question I keep asking and which we discussed in class is, when is it appropriate for children in elementary school to learn about disturbing, violent, and/or emotionally triggering aspects in American History. Now, I’m interested in contemporary writing, and … Continue reading What I would teach
Exploring the Renaissance Period
The Renaissance Period has always sparked my interest. The European Renaissance period was described as a fervent period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” following the Middle Ages. It was a time where people began to dig deeper and challenge each other’s thoughts. Reading about the European Renaissancehad really sparked my interest of the American Renaissance because I wanted to learn more. This was truly an important moment in history when American writers were given the same validation that European writers were getting. It was a very different time, and this is very exciting for the Americans. In high school my … Continue reading Exploring the Renaissance Period
