final blog post

Hi everyone and welcome to my final blog post! Throughout the entire process of this project I have learned a lot about what it takes to design a lesson plan as a teacher and the hard work that goes into doing so. I feel as if my partner and I have been very successful in creating a lesson around the Roaring Twenties that is going to be age appropriate for a fifth-grade class and will excite the students. At first it was quite challenging to take somewhat of advanced material and translate it into being taught to a younger audience, but I feel as if we were able to successfully find the right materials in helping us do so. I feel that we learned a lot about life in the 1920’s that we may not have known prior to making this lesson plan and therefore now have a deeper understanding of the topics in which we are going to teach. From choosing the text “What Were the Roaring Twenties?” by Michele Mortlock, I feel as if we were able to better understand how to teach the history of the 1920s to an elementary audience rather than learning through F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” like I had learned about in high school. I felt like the most challenging component to this project was knowing how to incorporate Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence into the lesson plan and to make sure that they connected both to the piece of literature we chose and the lesson plan itself. I hope you enjoy the PowerPoint lesson Erin and I are going to be putting together and our student’s timeline projects that go along with it!
