Hi welcome to my fourth and final blog post! While doing my research for my final project, I thought it was so cool to see what America is like now, compared to what it was like one hundered years ago. We are entering the 20s of the 2000s which is so crazy seeing how much change one hundered years can bring. Throughout my research, however, I did come across some similarities between now and then too. For example, the idea of wealth in the world. It is not as simple as East egg and West egg, but there are very large gaps between the rich and poor, or first world countries and third world. Half of the world is worried about what color shoes to get while the other half is worried about not having money for food or shelter. Another similarity we face in today’s society is portraying we are something we are not. Gatsby threw these elaborate parties and invited hundreds of people to them. He was trying to appear to be someone who knew everyone. Little did people know, Gatsby, was actually very alone. In today’s society people post on social media to portray they are something they are not, similarly to Gatsby. I think it is cool how there are so many differences between now and then, but also a bunch of similarities as well. Before doing my research, I did not think there would be any similarities between now and then because It was such a different time period. However, much to my surprise I actually found quite a few. Throughout this project, I did not have too much difficulty, however, I did face a few challenges. One challenge was simply just choosing which points of the book to go over in more detail than other parts of the book. We could not completely go over every part of the book, but since every part is so important, it was difficult to choose what to discuss in more detail. Choosing this topic to discuss was easy because it is such an important time in history. I had never watched the movie before, I had only read the book. So, I watched the movie for the first time, and it really opened up a whole new world for me. Seeing the characters in real life, really helped me to fully understand the plot. This is why we wanted to use clips from the movie to help the students fully understand the main points we were trying to teach.
