Final Blog Post

Welcome to my final blog post! To recap and review, me and my partner Angela will be creating a lesson plan on how to teach second or third graders the importance of immigration. We will do this by using the book, All The Way To America by Dan Yaccarino. Our goal is that we hope other educators can also learn from this and grasp new ideas for their students as well.

While researching this topic, Angela and I have come across things ourselves about immigration that we didn’t know were so important. We learned new things about it as our students will too. Our goal is to have the most amount of knowledge possible so that our students can have a broad and large understanding of immigration. As we have been putting this lesson plan together we have also been learning ourself so we can bring all of this back to our classrooms. In other readings that we sorted through it was made clear that students actually engage in learning about immigration. That is a large part as to why we picked this topic because most people, if not all can relate to it.

Angela have not faced any issues in our research aspect of this project. We know that immigration can be a sensitive topic for some people, especially young children but we are prepared to dive in to it with sensitivity. When we bring this into our own classrooms we have to remember that immigration might be very different so a few tweaks might have to be made. Teaching can be a challenge but if you have the right tools and are prepared, it will be a much easier obstacle to face. As a teacher, your students look up to you especially when they are young. We must act as their role model and be there for them no matter what.
