The literary period of Romanticism was artistic, musical and an intellectual movement that originated in Europe. Romanticism focused on emotion and individualism as well as nature. The Gothic literary period of American literature is just a sub-genre of Romanticism. The Gothic period occurred from the year 1800 to 1850. Since Gothic literature is a branch of fiction presented through many combinations of horror, mystery and romantic elements. Our lesson plan will be focusing on teaching 4th graders a poem. We decided on “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe and the teaching tool will be doing is a podcast. I think this approach for this project will be helpful to educators and learners. When teaching with different approaches to the Gardner Intelligences, I do believe that helps educators learn that there is more than one type of way to learn a topic, event or subject to teach elementary students.
When creating our podcast, I will be touching on the musical aspect of the poem and the style in which it is written. Amber will be focusing on the natural intelligence. In the poem, “The Raven”, there are many different details that can help with the natural and musical intelligences. I mentioned once before in an earlier blog post that “The Raven” includes different forms of symbolism throughout the poem. I was thinking for the musical intelligence that I would describe and depict in the podcast lesson plan the sounds, noises and way the style of the poem was written.
The work that remains to be done is just filming and doing the final touches on the podcast lesson plan video.
I wanted to create this teaching tool to help inspire other educators and to tell educators that there is many different techniques and ways a student may learn. Since deciding on our two Gardner intelligences I do believe by creating this teaching tool will help students further improve their creativity and imaginative skills. With using this teaching tool, we hope educators, future educators and students will have a better understanding of the poem, the significant of the author and literary period at the time in which, “The Raven” was written. Also, I agree with Amber I am excited to see how the final product comes out as well as our fellow classmate lesson plans.
