Lesson Development

Hello and welcome back to my third blog post! When trying to come up with a teaching style it is important to accommodate to various teaching styles for children. After all, everyone learns differently and obtains information in different ways. A teaching style that would allow students to reach their academic potential is, interpersonal and Spatial intelligence. Essentially what this means is that students would have to work together and throughout our lesson plan, we have created visual lessons for visual learners. In our lesson plan, it is planned for students to watch a short clip on how one’s actions come with consequences. Due to Edgar Allen Poe’s literature being intended for a mature audience, we are teaching this lesson for third-grade students.

The goals that we hope to accomplish throughout this lesson is for students to have a better understanding on how to learn more efficiently and effectively. The powerful message in which Poe hidden in the story, requires students to think more in-depth. A message in which refers to when you commit a wrong-doing then an individual will feel guilty after doing so. After reading the story, we would like the students to reflect on the questions and see how they can relate to the main character of the main story. The questions that would be asked is to try to remember a time where you committed a wrong-doing and how it made you feel after doing it. By doing so, allows the children to feel a relation to the main character.

As the days go by, my partner and I are beginning to accumulate more material in which can be incorporated into our lesson plan. The time in which is required to finish the lesson plan should be done in around 5-7 days.

We have manufactured a lesson plan for the soul purpose of helping fellow instructors to tackle such a key concept. By following certain intelligences we can accommodate every student since all students learn differently. It is important to keep that in mind when trying to go over a lesson plan. A text like the Tell-tale heart can be described as being dark and creepy but meant for an older audience. By teaching in this specific way, allows the message of guilt making an individual tell the crime in which they have committed to come out. This message is essential for elementary school students as it allows growth and development. By knowing that we have to pay for the misdoings that we commit, can allow students to think twice before doing something.

The sources in which we have incorporated into our lesson plan are the short story, ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ by Edgar Allen Poe. The citation that I decided to use for this blog is a primary source. Edgar Allen Poe wrote this story in 1843 and there have been any revisions to the story. I know that this is a credible source because when manufacturing a lesson plan, it is crucial to know what the storyline is like. If the teacher didn’t have the short-story than the lesson plan would be off-balanced.

The second source that we have chosen to incorporate is an article discussing interpersonal intelligence. Interpersonal intelligence means that students will work together efficiently and effectively. This intelligence relates to the story because students can relate to a time in which they have done wrongdoing. This allows the students to work together and compromise together. The reason for trying to create a tool that will encourage students to teach this text in this way because students learn in all different ways.

For our third and last source, we decided to use Spatial Intelligence. The source is a primary source that we used describes the importance of using visual learning in the classroom. By incorporating visuals throughout the lesson, this allows visual learners to obtain the material and the meaning of the lesson. This intelligence reaches towards students who learn best visually. In our lesson plan, we decided to include a short video showing the students how when you commit a wrong-doing then guilt will be a consequence.

We have decided to incorporate interpersonal intelligence into our lesson plan as our final intelligence. This is relating to when individuals are only capable of feeling their own emotions and don’t have the ability to feel other peoples emotions. In the short-story, the main character was unable to feel anyone’s emotions besides his own. Before he committed the crime, the main character didn’t think of how this mans death would affect his family and friends. By including this intelligence, it gives the students a sense of characterization and with an activity. This skill allows students to recognize what skills and interactions they are strong and weak in. By teaching students this skill, this allows the children to know how to solve conflicts in the future.
