Blog Post #2

For my final project, I have chosen to use the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. This book is about a young girl, Vashti, who is discouraged in her art class because she thinks that she cannot draw as well as everyone else in her class. With the help from her teacher who helps her grow her confidence, she is able to create something truly exciting for Vashti. She begins to create many art pieces and then inspires someone else by the end of the book. This was one of my favorite books as a child myself. I also think it has a great meaning behind it as well. I was so inspired to draw and color after reading this book when I first read it in school. This lesson will be geared towards second or third graders. As a lesson plan I am considering something along the lines of a read aloud, discussion about the book and an activity. For the activity we might have the students draw something that they like or that makes them happy, and have them share it with the class. I think this lesson and book would target the visual/spatial intelligence from Gardner’s seven intelligences.
