Amber and I have chosen to do our research on ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allan Poe. We have chosen to reflect on this poem because it has a great amount of symbolism and tells an interesting tale. We hope to teach this poem to 4th graders in the future. The writing style of the poem has a spooky feel to it as you read it. Amber and I intend on using the musical and natural Gardner intelligences for our teaching demo. By incorporating musical and natural intelligences the students will be able to grasp a better understanding of the poem.
When teaching the students about the poem, we will include visual resources and a creative project that the kids could do as a fun project assignment. Also, the students will have a chance engaging in public speaking by acting out the poem and making nature noises. As the students are engaged in the poem this is supporting the Gardner’s Intelligences of musical and natural intelligence. We feel that including creativity in a learning environment will be a great asset to better the knowledge for all the children.
Amber and I want to work in these parameters because creativity and Gardner’s intelligences helps students develop cognitive learning and attention skills. By using these methods, it helps children to think outside the box, get involved with exploration and problem solving.
The steps we have taken for this project was quite a process. The first step would be deciding what piece of literature we wanted to focus on. Second step would be coming to some agreement if we disagreed. The third step was deciding what grade and Gardner intelligences we would be using. We have not come across any challenges or obstacles so far into this project.
Amber and I have decided to officially do are final project on the poem, ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allan Poe.
