Hi! My name is Sydney Abate and welcome back to my blog post! The text that I will be focusing my research on is Blubber by Judy Blume. In this book they conduct two intelligences. These are interpersonal and intrapersonal. The interpersonal aspect comes in when the main character, Jill has to deal with being apart of something she does not want to be apart of. The intrapersonal aspect plays in when readers see how Jill struggles within herself and her conscience. I have chosen this book because Blume’s books are ones that teach lessons to readers. I find this is very important because in the future, I hope to teach second or third graders. Things like bullying could be very prominent in children this age. My partner, Madie and I feel this book allows children to understand that bullying is not okay or in anyway funny. For a lesson based on bullying, I would incorporate a book talking about bullying in a child-friendly way, PowerPoint, videos, and comprehension questions about the book. The book I found would be one the children could read and understand why bullying is bad and how it could be stopped. During my lesson, students can read the book alone or as a class and then do the activities displayed in the powerpoint with their table. Also, there will be times where the students can pose questions to either the class or myself. I think a lesson talking about bullying would be very beneficial for students at this age. They need to understand why they should not bully other children. Learning about bullying at a younger age will prevent it as children get older.
