2nd Blog Post; The Roaring 20’s.

After talking about The Great Gatsby in my last blog post and researching about The Roaring 20’s, I will be using the book “What Were The Roaring Twenties? (What Was) by Michele Mortlock. Even though I have not read this book yet, it looks like a great book for 5th and 6th graders because it has many pictures of what the 1920s had in that lifestyle but also is a chapter book. A chapter book is a great way for 5th and 6th graders to work on their reading skills. The grades I will be focusing on while teaching the Roaring 20s will be 5th and 6th grade, I think starting to talk about the Roaring 20’s at an early age(grade) is good because they will learn more in depth of the Roaring 20’s in higher education, such as high school or even college, and there is a book that is a perfect example of the Roaring 20’s which is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I think Gardner’s intelligence that will help my partner and I gear our teaching tool would be visual spatial intelligence. This intelligence is great for learners that like to look at pictures, watch videos, and use maps or charts to direct their learning. Also with this topic, it will be very helpful to show videos and pictures so the children can visually see the difference between the times in history. They can see and learn the difference between the cars, clothing, and just life in general during this decade.

For my teaching tool, I think they best way to present the Roaring 20’s is in a powerpoint. In this powerpoint, I would first introduce what the Roaring 20s was, next I would show videos on what life looked like during this time because it was much different from life now. Then I will show some pictures important people during this time. Finally, at the end I would assign the book to read and have the students do a project about this time in history. This powerpoint and project will help the students get an understanding of what the Roaring 20’s was and what has happened during the time and the important history that was made. This project would be the student picking something from the 20’s, either a person, book, or item like the Model T that was created. After the student has picked their topic, the next approach would be to do research on the topic and make a picture poster along with their research.

While creating the powerpoint lesson plan, and the poster project some challenges that we came across was the students not knowing what to research if other topics were taken. By solving this, at the end of the powerpoint, the last slide would consist of things or events that had happened during the 20’s that people didn’t know happened and have the students use those examples as well as the more common examples of the Roaring 20’s.
