ENG-245-C The History of Two Different Communities
There are two literary periods I would love to focus on and teach in my classroom, the Native American and Colonial Era. The genres I am interested in is poetry and fiction. When I was doing research, I didn’t expect to retrieve a lot of information ranging from all different issues that occurred between these two communities. Meanwhile, there was many authors to choose from, I was interested in Roger.D. Herring and E Barrie Kavasch. Roger Herrings’, “Elementary School Guidance and Counseling” and E Barrie Kavaschs’, “Earth Makers Lodge”, talks about real life situations and history that happened to the Northeast Native Americans during these specific eras. For the Colonial era, the book I found interesting was, “Here I Shall Die Ashore”, by Stephen Hopkins. I am curious and interested in the Colonial and Native American Literary Era because its part of my heritage. When I teach this literary era, I feel I can contribute my knowledge on the certain topics of discussion regarding both the Colonial and Native American side. Since I am related to Stephen Hopkins, Massasoit and several other historical figures I can show the children I teach the journals, letters, jewelry, old photographs and other artifacts that were passed down to me from past generations. I can also wear my Native American Regalia, sing in the five different tribe languages and do ceremonial dances for the kids. And with the Colonial side I can show different clothing and other objects that they wore or used during that time period. Since there are two separate cultures being represented, I will teach the lesson to the children through music, dancing, storytelling, speaking, reading, drawing and much more. The resources I would like to have as a teacher is a classroom, art kits and a blackboard. My hope one day is to teach children the meaning of history and why it is so important. I would love to share my passion for history, culture and teaching with children across the world.
