One era that I am personally interested in would be the Romantic era. I feel that the romantic era was the first time anyone has really read about emotion, love, and affection. During the Romantic era, most people were considered conservatives. During that era, authors and even artists started to express themselves in words and pictures. I personally love to read about love and emotion, so I am very interested in this time period. The Romantic era also touches upon nature, using personification in its poems. I would teach the romantic era/period with poems and short stories by the famous authors during that time, such as the famous authors, Walt Whitman or Emily Dickinson. Walt Whitman is famously known for his gentle and loving poems he wrote. I’m curious to the deeper meaning of Whitman’s romantic poems are though. He touches upon the idea of love and nature mostly in his famous poems. In his famous poem, “Leaves of Grass,” he uses personification when he is talking about grass. In the text, grass possesses the idea of beauty. As a teacher, I would want the poems and stories available to me. I would use them as an example to teach the students about that era. I would also use the internet to help give an actual definition about the romantic era, so the students would truly understand the meaning of it. I feel that it is an important era to learn about due to the rise of expression and emotion in this time in history.
