Throughout my research I found many authors that have written children’s books. These books would be great for a classroom and to read to elementary students, as they can engage students in books they do not see and read all the time. Some authors I am curious about are Charlotte Zolotow, Vashti Harrison and Chelsea Clinton. These three authors all target feminism and racial differences. I am interested in these types of genres and era’s because it can help students understand and learn more about gender roles and racism to some extent. These genres and era’s can help my students understand some aspect of history as well as literature. I imagine myself teaching them by reading the book to the entire class and having a class discussion about what occurred in the book and also having the students break up into small groups to do different activities relating to the books. When it comes to resources, I would like to have many different books, worksheets, and some type of technology available. I would like these types of resources available because I want my classroom to be able to have many different sources for them to learn with, as each student has a different way of learning and understanding things. Having different resources will allow my students to do different activities relating to the books we read. Whether these activities are online, worksheets, or reading other books to compare and contrast the two, I want my students to be able to engage in as much activities as they can.
